Thermo Fisher Scientific’s TaqPath COVID-19 Tests can detect the presence of the Omicron variant in SARS-CoV-2 samples

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], December 01: Thermo Fisher Scientific, the world leader in serving science, confirmed that its TaqPath COVID-19 Combo Kit*, and TaqPath COVID-19 CE-IVD RT-PCR Kit can accurately detect the presence of the new Omicron variant in SARS-CoV-2 samples. The test works on the primer-probe detection method and is not impacted by the emerging B.1.1.529 or Omicron variant.

The World Health Organization (WHO) classified the Omicron variant as a SARS-CoV-2 “variant of concern” with more than 30 mutations in the spike protein alone. This variant has caused renewed restriction across countries and research to examine the variant’s impact on the efficacy of existing vaccines and tests.

The TaqPath COVID-19 assays detect SARS-CoV-2 infections by identifying the presence of three gene targets from the orf1a/b, S, and N regions of the virus. While the S gene target in the test is impacted in the presence of Omicron variant mutations, the orf1a/b and N gene targets in the TaqPath COVID-19 tests have been determined to not be impacted by any of the mutations.

“Thermo Fisher is committed to supporting the world’s pandemic response by developing innovative, adaptive and resilient testing solutions. Our TaqPath Assays are developed with additional built-in checks to ensure that clinicians, researchers and public health officials have access to effective tools to accurately detect mutations as the virus continues to evolve,” said Amit Chopra, managing director India and South Asia, Thermo Fisher Scientific.

The Omicron variant has been found to include the 69-70del mutation of the S gene, first identified as a mutation in the Alpha variant. This mutation causes a dropout of the S-gene target in results from the TaqPath test, which could indicate to clinicians and researchers a possible Omicron variant infection. Confirmation must then be performed by sequencing the sample.

Building Gender Parity at Indian Enterprises

Gi Group India Continues its “Conversations on Sustainable work”

New Delhi (India), December 01: This is a time when women around the world are breaking all barriers, and yet according to a World Economic Forum report [World Economic Forum’s Gender Gap Report], women’s progress in economic participation and opportunity has declined, forcing gender parity to a low 57.8%, a fact further exacerbated by a devastating pandemic.

In India, gender parity at the workplace is still quite a bit out of our reach. As per the ‘DivHERsity Benchmarking Report 2019’, which studied gender parity in the Indian workplace across 300+ companies, only a quarter of India’s workforce is female. This was corroborated not too long back by the ‘India Skills Report 2018’ that puts the economic participation of women in the workforce at 23% in 2018, a concerning fall from 32% in 2016.

In a recent development, Gi Group India organized a virtual event on “Building Gender Parity at Indian Enterprises”, which is the second webinar in the series of “Conversations on Sustainable Work”.

Building Gender parity in Indian Enterprises comes with multiple challenges like work-family balance, choice of job profiles, workplace location, the disparity in salaries and most importantly a mindset and attitudinal change at all organizational levels.

Industry stalwarts made the conversation even more interesting with their insightful thoughts; Eminent speakers:  T.N Hari, CHRO, Bigbasket, Katyayani Krishna, Area HR Head, South-Asia, Maersk, Amit Chincholikar, Global CHRO, Tata Consumer Products, Avneet Hora, Head of HR & Board Member, Unisys India, Sangeeta Gupta Senior Vice President, NASSCOM.

Upasana Raina, Director Human Resources Gi Group India, said, “While a lot is always discussed on the need to improve gender parity at Indian enterprises, the positives need to be reiterated much more than just focusing on what’s not working well. During our virtual event, which is the second webinar in our series of “Conversations of Sustainable work,” we discussed actions that are being taken in respective organizations/sectors to build gender parity. I Would like to thank all our esteemed panellists who shared their expert views on the topic.”

QSR Chain Ajay’s Opens 95th Outlet

Starting from a single outlet in Navsari city in 2014, the chain has expanded at an incredible pace in the last year and a half

Surat (Gujarat) [India], December 01: Ajay’s Takeaway Food, a fast-growing chain of trusted Quick Service Restaurants (QSR) committed to serving affordable but high-quality food, has reached a major milestone in its unbelievable growth journey.

From its first outlet in August 2014, Ajay’s has opened its 95th outlet at Piplod, Surat, this month. What makes the journey all the more incredible is that Ajay’s has its roots in Navsari, a small city in South Gujarat.

The journey of Ajay’s, however, began in 1991 at Pune, when Manjulaben decided to help her husband Vasantbhai to make ends meet for the Family. The couple started a household mess with just 2 bachelors having evening meals. In no time, they were swarmed with requests from students, bachelors, techies, and other clients to have their meals. Their sons Jay and Ajay started to help in the home operated venture.

From a mess operated in a 1 BHK flat, the young sibling Ajay’s took the eatery to a rented place with over 100 meals served daily. Ajay took pride in his work, and his inclination to serve good food to many took him to start various food ventures. In 2013, the elder sibling, Jay, who had spent over 12 years in the corporate world, joined Ajay to take it to new heights.

Even though the food business in Pune was doing well, the family decided to shift to Navsari, their native place, in 2012. The first restaurant in Navsari that started in December 2012 was Chowpati Fast Food, and not Ajay’s Takeaway Food. Within 6 months, they started another outlet of Chowpati Fast Food, and in next 6 months, it was a super failure. It was the time to introspect and it was the time when Ajay’s Takeaway Food, as we know it today, was born in August 2014 with the first outlet in Navsari. The range of burgers, pizzas, and coffees the outlet sold became hugely popular among customers. The number of Ajay’s Takeaway Food outlets soon grew to three, and the first franchisee outlet of Ajay’s was opened in Surat in 2016.

By March 2020, the number of Ajay’s outlets crossed 21, but the Covid-19 pandemic did him them severely. From 21 outlets in March 20, the pandemic took away 8 outlets. With 13 outlets in June 20, they decided to make a drastic change in the way they operated and appointed Franchise. The franchise model was revised, franchise fees were abolished, even royalty was now not charged. Operations at outlets were more standardised, and technology was now included to have smooth operations. They completely focused on how to make the franchise more profitable.

The number of outlets is now about to cross the century mark. Today, Ajay’s outlets are present in nearly all places in Navsari, Surat, Valsad, Bharuch, and other places in the south Gujarat region. With the trusted franchise model, they also entered the Central Gujarat territory in August 2021. As on 31st October 21, the Vadodara Territory has 14 operational outlets in just 3 months.

“When we started the first outlet in Navsari in 2014, we had not imagined we would have anywhere around 100 outlets in a few years. Our focus on taste, quality, affordability, accessibility and our commitment to serving food that is good has helped us reach this milestone. We are thankful to our customers for their love and unwavering support over the years,” said Jai Solanki, Co-founder, Ajay’s Takeaway Food.

Ajay’s has so far concentrated on expanding in South Gujarat and Central Gujarat areas, but the firm has set its sights on expanding to more cities going ahead. They prime focus is on Tier 2, Tier 3 and below towns.

“We have a strong presence in south Gujarat now, and our focus continues on ensuring the highest quality food products are served to customers. But we want to reach to masses in every corner of the country, and hence we want to be present at more cities within and outside Gujarat in the future. Looking back at the journey, we firmly believe this is just the beginning for Ajay’s,” said Ajay Solanki, Co-founder, Ajay’s Takeaway Food.

Surya Sarees’ Bridal Edit Captures the Emotions of Love, Faith, and Hope Epitomised By Marriage

Surya Sarees has launched an evocative Bridal Edit that captures the emotions evoked of love, faith, and hope epitomised by marriage

Inayat, the newest bridal edit 21-22 from the House of Surya captures, celebrates and brings alive every nuance of that journey

New Delhi (India), December 1: Surya Sarees, a complete ethnic fashion house based in Delhi, has launched the Newest Bridal Edit of ‘Love and With Love’, which is the latest collection of bridal couture.

The colour rich Bridal Collection of Surya Sarees is an enchanting medley of bridal glory sprawled across strikingly hued compositions. Accordingly, the music video of the collection celebrates the kind of emotions that Virginia Woolf used to evoke through her stream of consciousness style of writing.

The collection amalgamates a vintage theatre of art with the modern grace of humility and empathy. It captures the moments of being, the ones that separate themselves from the other moments of non-being. It’s all about the powerfully heartfelt, poignant, and transcendental moments between the bride’s mother, the bride, and her brigade: the kind of moments that remain with us all our lives.

Mr. Raghav Mittal, COO, Surya Sarees, said, ‘‘our team strives everyday to provide brides with their dream wedding look. Its a priveledge to be a part of their celebrations and memories. Inaayat exemplifies the true beauty within each bride and portrays a fun and musical celebration which is a wedding. We are thankful to our artisans and karigars especially during times when production was affected. They have helped us bring out our design ideas into reality.”

The concept and creative direction of this video has been done by Mr. Raghav Mittal himself. Kavita Seth, an Indian singer and a profound performer of Ghazals and Sufi music, is the playback singer of the video. Her legendary voice embodies the emotion of the collection in its most nuanced realisation. As we unfold the lehengas and their enigmatic details, we also get to rejoice in a truthful rendition of the evergreen “Ude Jab Jab Zulfen Teri”— the cover song of the video. The music video is so gracefully open-ended that it liberates the viewers into visualising their emotions with marriage, love, faith, and hope.

The Bridal Collection by Surya Sarees features the purest silk woven by the divinity-inspired craft of the artisans and upholds a unique sense of timelessness. Every piece of clothing from the collection reveals a rich blend of interconnectedness, love, and grace. The bridal collection got rooted in the richest hues of Red, Gold, Pink and White. It is subtle yet striking, trendy yet classic, unique yet familiar. Its exquisite, stunning, and gorgeous craftsmanship came into play to evoke the deepest layers of relationships that shine bright throughout a wedding – the purest of them being that of a mother and a daughter.

December 01: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on Bollywood, as it did on other film industries worldwide.  As cinemas and movie theatres remained closed for a long period and film releases were indefinitely delayed, the Indian box office dropped by billions of dollars.  Many blockbusters initially due to be released since mid-March 2020 were postponed or canceled, with film productions also halted. The people who work as junior artists or behind the scenes in the film and TV industry were affected the worst by all this. During these difficult times, a major union of Indian film and television industry workers, Dhadak All Film Kamgar Sangathana, under the great leadership of prominent labour leader Abhijeet Rane, strongly supported the people working in the field of films, TV serials and web series in various departments.

But Abhijeet Rane emerged as a savior of these workers during these difficult times. During the lockdown, more than 20,000 migrant workers and needy individuals were coordinated with government agencies and relocated to their native places with the support of the union, which is led by Abhijeet Rane.
