A ‘New Wave’ of Food Products Will Hit India With FSSAI’s Regulations Allowing Hemp to be Used as a Food Source

New Delhi [India], November 27: India’s hemp and cannabis sector are all prepared to hit the next wave of food and beverage products with the Food Safety and Security Authority of India (FSSAI) setting the regulation for allowing hemp to be used as a food source.

FSSAI issued a notification on November 15, 2021, stating ‘the hemp seed, hemp seed oil, and hemp seed flour shall be sold as food or used as an ingredient in a food for sale, subject to conforming standards.

Welcoming the FSSAI regulations on hemp as a food source, Founder of Ananta Hemp Works based in Delhi NCR, Abhinav Bhaskar, said, “With extended support from the government, we are expecting the industry to flourish and capture a major chunk of the market in coming times, Not just in sectors limited to medicine, nutritional and personal care but textile, agriculture and others as well. In 2017, FSSAI was granting licenses for hemp seed products, followed by a warning letter to all manufacturers that there were ‘no standards’ for hemp in India and that the products were being sold illegally. In the coming years, lots of food products containing hemp seeds and hemp seed oil will enter the space and increase the availability of the same across the food industry, giving consumers various choices of healthy foods.”

Hemp and marijuana come from the Cannabis family of plants. Both contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) with a host of other compounds. CBD is an oil extracted from the leaves that act as a painkiller, muscle relaxant, and mood enhancer. Since in India, it is only allowed to grow hemp which contains 0.3% THC, consuming the same will not get you high.

Vijaya, also commonly known as Bhanga and cannabis, a drug of herbal origin, is being extensively used by Ayurvedic physicians to treat various diseases and lifestyle disorders, as it’s showing great results if administered correctly. Shubham Shourya’s directorial debut silent short film Kaarigar receives overwhelming response

This short film has won three awards at Calcutta International Film Festival 2020 and US Best Shorts Competition 2020

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], November 27: The short film ‘Kaarigar’ is garnering an overwhelming response from cinema enthusiasts. This silent film won three awards at the Calcutta International Film Festival 2020. Released on 23rd July 2021 on Mx player, it marks the directorial debut of Shubham Shourya, an acclaimed screenplay writer and a recipient of Indian Television Awards.

The film’s plot revolves around an artisan working in a merchandise company manufacturing trousers. His mundane routine life takes a turn when he’s hurt by a needle of the sewing machine. The accident makes him realise that he’s probably not worthy of leading a normal life. Heartbroken and shattered, the artisan is on the verge of giving up his job till something almost surreal occurs.

“Cinema is a director’s medium. Kaarigar will always remain close to my heart as it marks my leap into the direction from the screenplay, and that too in a limited budget. This idea took shape while I was working as a small-time assistant director in Delhi before moving to Mumbai, where I was establishing myself as a writer under major TV and film production house. I wrote this story and narrated it even to those least interested in listening to it and noted their feedback. This made the story more layered and my conviction for directing it firmer and more rooted. Not going with the idea of giving the story a romantic twist as suggested by a big production house in Mumbai made it raw and unconventional. The same could be felt by viewers,” Shubham Shourya, Director, Kaarigar, said.

He is now working on a satirical web series revolving around seven characters from different backgrounds stuck in a nondescript and mysterious village. Another work is a feature-length psychological thriller revolving around a cop. The story is set in a mining company in Jharkhand.

About the Director

Shubham Shourya pursued a Bachelor’s of Technology (B.Tech) from Rajasthan Technological University and is an experienced film and television writer. His major work includes screenplay and dialogues for Vaibhav Kalrekar’s yet to be released feature film ‘Kashmir Not Out, script supervisor for Laado-2, screenplay writer for Badho Bahu, as a researcher in a documentary on Late Shri Rajesh Pilot, writer for Jiban Bindu- a documentary on blood donation movement initiated by the Odisha government, Assistant director in a documentary film on “Defense Psychological Research Institute” directed by Ms. Gopi Desai (National Award Winner). His work ‘Badho Bahu (&TV) won the Best Story Award at Indian Television Awards 2020. It was also nominated for Best Screenplay at the same event.

The PM Gati Shakti has been launched by the Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to provide a National Master Plan for Multi-Modal Connectivity across the country. A zonal conference for Western Region was held today at Mahatma Mandir at Gandhinagar by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India under PM Gati Shakti.

November 27: The skin care products market was valued at INR 129.76 billion in 2020, and it is predicted to increase at an annual pace of 8.22 per cent between 2021 and 2025, reaching INR 191.09 billion by 2025.

In India, the skin care products market is divided into four categories: face, body, sun, and other skin care products. Face care products dominated the market in terms of revenue, accounting for 57.22% of the market in 2020. During the period 2021–2025, the other skin care products category, which includes depilatory products for the face and body, is predicted to develop at the quickest CAGR of 10.13 per cent.
